The Couch Project | It's Not A Sleepover If You Can't Go Home

If you have been following this blog for a while, or if you know me in real life, you will know I have volunteered a few times in the inner city of Sydney and Brisbane, working along side some of the social services in operation there. One of these services is The Salvation Army, in particular the Oasis Youth Support Network. Oasis is ‘the Salvation Army’s response to Youth Homelessness in Sydney’s inner city, providing a place of safety and care where young people can find refuge’. On any given night, they will help to accommodate and feed more than 100 homeless young people.

On the 28th of July, Oasis YSN is launching The Couch Project, ‘a fundraising and awareness campaign, aimed at combating youth homelessness through raising awareness of couch surfing’. Homelessness is so much more than those huddled up on our streets–it is also those even further in the background, bouncing from friends house to friends house, from couch to couch without a place to call their own. Vulnerable, overwhelmed and exposed, they are the hidden homeless.

On Saturday September 14, myself and a group of friends will be partaking in The Couch Project, hosting a sleep out to raise awareness and fundraise money to combat youth homelessness. If you would like to support me and my goal of $500, find out more about Oasis/The Couch Project or even sign up for yourself, I will post some links below! Your support in any way is greatly appreciated.
